Counselling

Talking with a compassionate counsellor who is trained to listen can help you make sense of what is going on in your life.

When you take steps to seek support during life’s difficult situations, you begin a journey of healing, growth and empowerment towards a positive change for you and your loved ones.

Call us to arrange a free, confidential appointment where a counsellor will assist you in deciding what service is right for you. They will discuss which programs you are eligible for and whether fees are applicable. Some programs are fully subsidized.

Women’s Program

In small groups, drop ins and through one to one counselling and social supports, women discuss issues such as life stress, parenting, challenges/transitions, addiction, abuse, relationships and life goals. They gain self-awareness and an understanding of how to create change in their lives, to take care of themselves and to better handle the day to day challenges they face. Women are also offered support for past or recent trauma that they may have experienced.

Violence Against Women (VAW) Program

The VAW program provides individual counselling, safety planning, advocacy, information and referrals for women or those identifying as women (16+) who are dealing with issues associated with past or current abuse. It also assists their children who have experienced domestic violence, human trafficking, sexual harassment and/or abuse (physical, sexual, verbal, emotional or financial).

Violence Against Women Coordination Committee (VAW)

FSPH is a member of the StopVAW committee consisting of multiple local agencies and services who co-ordinate their efforts to end violence, to advocate and to help the community understand domestic violence and to inform people of crucial supports available.

Men’s psychoeducational and process groups are open to men who want to work on personal issues such as anger, depression, abuse, relationship issues, addictions, parenting and communication. In small groups, men explore their thoughts and feelings and are supported and challenged to make positive changes for themselves. Group members support and encourage each other through difficult transitions.
